LAVCA’s 5th Annual Summit:

“Capitalizing on positive momentum”

The 2007 Summit took place on March 16 in Guatemala City. It was organized by LAVCA (Latin American Venture Capital Association’s) and supported by the Andin Fostering Corporation (CAF) with generous support from the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) and the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO). More than 100 leading international fund managers, development banks and institutional investors met for the LAVCA's 5th Annual Summit. This was clearly a record.

According to LAVCA Chair, Eduardo Elejalde, the record attendance was not surprising because investor confidence in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is surging.

Participants at LAVCA Annual Summits engage in substantive discussions with key industry players on issues impacting the operating and policy environment related to the region's venture capital and private equity markets. Besides the presentation of regional case studies, the topics discussed during the seminar included the opportunities for private equity in Central America, the possibility of Latin America of sustaining its positive momentum (given the constant rise in the investor confidence in the region) to become the next relevant emerging market if the expectations of  an Asian downturn are fulfilled, the different ways to enable local investor participation, the work of regional Associations to support member fundraising through research and outreach to investors.

In addition to panels on “Enabling Local Investor Participation” and “Bolstering Fundraising through Effective Investor Outreach”, participants were presented with data on current industry trends and regional case studies from fund managers including Citigroup Venture Capital International, EMP Latin America, Darby Overseas Investments, Aureos Capital and CRP Companhia de Participações.
