The Inter-American Development Bank, in its 50th anniversary, is launching an Energy Innovation Contest. Its goal is to find original responses to the energy challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean today.
This contest is a joint initiative of GVEP International, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Korean Trust Fund (KPKF) and the German Development Cooperation (GTZ) and it is aimed at the general public, NGOs, development agencies, and academic institutions, among others. The contestants must be based in the Latin America region but can apply in partnership with people from other regions. However, those that already receive funding from the IDB should refrain from participating.
The innovative idea may involve new technologies, new ways of using or combining existing processes or technologies, old technologies used for new purposes, cost effective technologies, new delivery methods or support processes, new financing methods, new institutional design and/or new partners/entities delivering services or producing goods.
The winner can get up to US$200,000 funding to develop his or her idea in a time span of two years. Results are required; there must be clear evidence that the idea has impacted the entrepreneur’s environment, through the provision of energy access services, income generation, and in the battle against climate change.
The deadline for submissions is 15 May 2009.
