Villgro, an iDISC network member, presents a one-of-a-kind signature event that will provide a common meeting ground for innovators of all hues, ideators who wish to translate their dreams to reality, social entrepreneurs who’ve been-there-done-that, domain experts, opinion leaders and leading lights of the Innovation & Social Entrepreneurship ecosystem. Unconvention 2011 will be held December 2-3 in Chennai, India.
This year's Unconvention features the Villgro Awards and the Wantrapreneur competition:
Villgro Awards:
Villgro Awards recognize and felicitate outstanding people, enterprises and institutions belonging to the innovation eco-system. The awards are conferred on individuals and enterprises that are nominated across the following categories:
- Lifetime achievement
- Social Enterprise
- Social Investor
- Media House
- Journalist
- Grass root innovator
- Young Innovator
- Research
Nominations are open for all. Villgro Unconvention will form a jury comprising of experts from the innovation eco-system to select the winners from one of the following categories:
- Social Enterprise
- Social Investor
- Media
- Journalist
- Incubator
- Lifetime Achievement
- Grassroot Innovation
- CSIE (IIT-M) - Villgro Academic & Research Contribution Award

The Wantrapreneur Competition:
Wantrapreneur, the Social Business Plan competition, is organized as a part of Villgro’s Unconvention, India’s premier Innovation & Social Entrepreneurship conference. Applications are invited from Start-up and Early Growth enterprises with market based solutions that can transform rural lives. The competition provides Social Entrepreneurs, a chance to present their businesses to the Social Entrepreneurship fraternity consisting of investors, fellow entrepreneurs, incubators and other leading lights of the sector.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an intensive 1 on 1 mentoring session by Villgro. The finalists will make their presentations to an elite jury, comprising leading individuals from the sector.
Rewards include cash prizes up to Rs.10 lakhs, well rounded media exposure, and a chance to get incubated by Villgro or other incubators. Agriculture based enterprises will receive a special reward.
