In partnership with South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology, we are excited to begin accepting registrations for our 5th Global Forum on Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship in East London, South Africa on May 28-30, 2013. The Forum's sessions will tackle inclusive innovation, women’s entrepreneurship, mobile solutions, and more.
Every two years, the Global Forum gives entrepreneurs, investors, development practitioners, regulators, international aid representatives, and innovation enthusiasts a chance to exchange insights and learn from the most innovative businesses in developing countries.
In addition, the Global Forum will offer a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to network and meet a wide range of donors, partners, mentors and investors.

Take the winners of the Top20 SME pitch fest at the heart of the 4th Global Forum. Ecofiltro, a Guatemalan producer of affordable water filters, has grown to employ 110 people—including 73 women. M-Farm, a Kenyan SMS-based online marketplace for farmers, has amassed over 6,000 subscribers; MedAfrica , a mobile health application, has surpassed 150,000 downloads.
Another winner, social advertising startup SocialWire, recently raised $2 million in funding from First Round Capital, Dave McClure of 500 Startups, and other leading venture funds. In an interview, founder and CEO Selcuk Atli cited the initial visibility and validation from the contest as factors that inspired him to move to Silicon Valley and take his company to where it is today.
Building on the lessons and impacts of the 2011 Global Forum, the coming one will feature its own “dragon’s den” pitching competition, along with hands-on workshops, site visits and interactive presentations on climate technology, inclusive innovation, business incubation, mobile solutions and entrepreneurship, and women’s entrepreneurship.
Nearly 600 people traveled to Helsinki, Finland for the 4th Global Forum. We are preparing to host 600 to 800 attendees this May.
