Description	TREC-STEP is a multi-dimensional developmental organization for promoting technology and entrepreneurship initiatives. The Entrepreneurship Development Mission is to encourage the formation and growth of knowledge based Industries of young science and technology persons and to pioneer other industrial development activities. Comprehensive support in the form of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Training, Nursery incubator space during the gestation period, Design Innovation Facilities with latest hardware and software platforms, Central Common Manufacturing and prototyping facilities, Network Software Support, Technology Aid, Management Tools etc. are provided by TREC-STEP, for creating successful innovative ventures. TREC-STEP has, to date promoted, nearly 200 high growth start-up SMEs, trains nearly 4000-5000 youth in technology skills every year and has supported more than 4000 SME and micro ventures towards growth and sustainability. TREC-STEP is one of the successful Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Parks(STEP) / Business Incubators (BI) in the country, winning the following awards and accolades from its inception: • TREC-STEP’s Start-up Entrepreneurs have bagged the highest number of “National Awards for the Incubatees for the year 2009, 2010 and 2011” among the Indian Incubators awarded by the Indian Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Parks and Technology Business Incubators Association (ISBA). • TREC-STEP start-ups have also won several awards in DST – Intel India Innovation Pioneers Challenges, Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Program, TR35 MIT Technology Review Magazine etc. • We have won the World Bank Development MarketPlace Award in 2008 for the ‘Mini Cold Storage Ventures for Farmers Markets’ Project. • Winner of the ‘Best Success Story resulting from the usage of EOS Soft Landing and Business boosting services’ in 2008 under the European Commission supported ‘Euroffice Services (EOS) Project • TREC-STEP has also won the covetous, International Champion of Business Incubation Award from the United Kingdom Business Incubation in the year 2006, as its first ever recipient. • In 2004, one of the TREC-STEP’s entrepreneurs won the ‘Best Entrepreneur Award’ from Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad • TREC-STEP has also won the ‘Best Innovation Award from the Indian Railway Board’ in 2002 for converting the historic steam locomotive of the Nilagiri Mountain Railway from coal firing system to an oil firing one • In 2001, TREC-STEP received the ‘Best Performing STEP in India’ Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi TREC-STEP has also partnered with many national and international organizations such as World Bank, European Union, British Council Division, UNDP, UNIDO, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, in incubation and Skill training, bringing in rich dividends for the region to create a world class industrial ambience in the region.
Interests	TREC-STEP has evolved from entrepreneurship and development to technology intensive incubator in the first 2 decades from its inception. Now, TREC-STEP is currently working on identifying and incubating innovative high growth ventures in Manufacturing, ICT, Design and Green Technology Areas and has been able to achieve reasonable success. Encouraged by this successful evolutionary path, TREC-STEP has set itself a more challenging and rewarding task of becoming the green tech, clean tech and climate tech incubator aiming for global leadership position in this arena in the next decade.
